Friday 5 April
On Friday we left Thames and driving near to Morrinsville stopped to buy figs at a
roadside stall. Taking advantage of the opportunity to document the stall we met
the owner of the property, Kees, who kindly showed us round his property introducing
us to his wwoofers and treating us to his different varieties of figs. He also grew
grapes , citrus, passionfruit, apples and planted these trees when he first moved to
the property so they were really productive. He passed on tips about how to tell if figs
were ripe as they droop slightly on the stalk. He has a neighbour helping out too who
sang the praises of working in his delightful food forest.
On the Friday night we gave a presentation at Solscape in Raglan, a well situated
venture they cater for surfers, backpackers and those who like something a bit
different. The fabulous views of the coastline and the setting in the bush of teepees
together with swimming, fantastic sunsets and gloworms allowed us all to enjoy our
time there to the full. Solscape take wwoofers to help maintain productive gardens;
the veggies going to the café where all the food is organic and very tasty.
